Meet Helena: From Junior Engineer to Engineering Manager
How did your journey at Sellpy begin and what do you do today?
My journey at Sellpy started back in 2019, when I worked part-time as a Junior Software Engineer while finishing my final year at KTH. I had heard about Sellpy before and was immediately drawn to the product, it felt important, exciting and unique.
After graduating, I moved into a full-time role as a Software Engineer and spent around two years in that position before taking the next step into an Engineering Manager role.
Today, I work with our internal systems, the technology that powers our warehouses. That system includes everything from picking and shipping orders to sorting, photography and packing. A big part of working with the internal systems is the focus of automating our processes: finding ways to make our processes smarter, faster and more scalable.
What does your role look like?
A large part of my role is about leading and supporting the team, making sure they have the right support and direction to do their best work.
Another important part is working closely with the Product Owner. We make sure the features we build make sense from a customer’s perspective and a technical perspective, making sound long-term decisions around architecture and other technical aspects.
The rest of my time goes to coding new features and maintaining the system!
What motivated you to grow internally?
What really motivates me is the combination of impact and product. Being so closely involved, working with complex and interesting problems, and knowing that what we build actually makes a difference.
The problems we solve are new and unique, that makes the work really exciting. Many of the challenges we work on do not have ready-made answers. Quite simply, no one else is doing exactly what we are doing.
How has Sellpy supported you along the way?
Sellpy has been very good at showing trust. You are given a lot of responsibility early on, and when you need support, it is always close at hand.
There have also been clear opportunities to grow – both through new roles and by working together to create a plan for the next step in your journey.
